Periodic inspections of industrial robots

Our main area of business is the servicing of industrial robots. Our robot maintenance services cover a full range of maintenance tasks, and the scope of work is tailored to the customer’s needs.

Periodic inspection of robots

We perform thorough and professional periodic inspections and maintenance of industrial robots.

Industrial robots are machines that operate continuously and produce goods in industrial facilities around the world. Working 8, 16, or even 24 hours a day is their normal operating schedule. A robot must always be ready for action, always ready to operate at full speed and under full load. If a product is being delivered to the robot’s workstation, the robot cannot stop. 3,000, 4,000, 6,000 hours of operation per year? It is normal and obvious that a robot must perform this task; no one questions it.

Why is it important to perform periodic inspections of industrial robots?

Just like other devices subjected to heavy loads, a robot is bound to wear out. First and foremost, operation affects the lubricants—that is, the oils and greases that fill the gears and bearings. Next, we can observe wear on consumable parts, such as drive belts and the bearings themselves. The batteries and rechargeable batteries installed in robots and controllers do not last forever—they have a predetermined lifespan. Even parts installed in the controller, such as filters, fans, and memory modules, can degrade and become damaged—this is normal. The robot’s wiring is also a component that wears out. No material can withstand being twisted and crushed indefinitely with every movement performed by the manipulator.

If you leave the robot to its own devices, all these components will eventually wear out, which is natural. The robot may continue to operate for some time with old oil or cracked belts. Old grease in the bearing should not cause an immediate shutdown. Small problems grow and can lead to serious consequences. Old and burnt oil or grease can damage the internal seals of the gearbox, which is a very expensive component, and can also seep into the motor and simply damage it. Unlubricated bearings can eventually lead to a sudden stoppage or damage to the component in which they are mounted. A cracked belt will eventually snap, which will most likely cause the robot to collide with an object in its surroundings, and the robot will certainly lose calibration on that axis. Old batteries may leak onto the electronics mounted next to them or simply run out of power, causing a loss of calibration or even damage to the operating system.

It is precisely for these reasons that regular periodic inspections of robots are necessary. Worn materials and parts should be replaced when signs of wear are visible, after a certain number of operating hours, or when a malfunction is suspected. In most cases, this helps prevent sudden failures and shutdowns.

Periodic inspections of robots offered by Pan Robot

However, regular maintenance of industrial robots involves more than just replacing wear parts. During a periodic inspection, we check between 40 and 60 inspection points, depending on the type of robot and controller. We thoroughly check the tightness of individual components, for leaks, the condition of lubricants, batteries, drive operation, calibration, the robot’s technical condition, and the condition of individual robot and controller components. We perform maintenance tasks such as cleaning the controller, replacing lubricants, and replacing belts and batteries.

After the service, you will receive comprehensive documentation from us detailing all inspection points, as well as any issues we identified, including recommendations and photographic documentation.

We perform:

  • periodic inspections of ABB robots,
  • periodic inspections of Kuka robots,
  • periodic inspections of Fanuc robots,
  • periodic inspections of Yaskawa and Motoman robots,
  • periodic inspections of Hyundai, Hyulim, and Fuji Robotics robots,

Whether your company uses Kuka, ABB, Yaskawa, Motoman, Hyundai, or other robots—we always provide the same high standard and quality of service. Our procedures are based on best practices used in various industrial robot service centers. We also perform robot repairs.

FAQ – Periodic Inspections of Industrial Robots

Regular inspections help identify component wear before a major breakdown occurs. This allows you to schedule maintenance at a convenient time, rather than reacting to production downtime. It is one of the most important preventive tools in maintenance.

The inspection covers several dozen checkpoints, including drives, wiring, lubrication systems, and electronics. We also verify the robot’s performance parameters and mechanical condition. The process concludes with a report and recommendations.

The frequency depends on the robot's workload and the manufacturer's recommendations. In practice, this is usually on an annual basis or based on a specific number of operating hours. We assess each case individually.

Yes—the customer receives a detailed report on the work performed and the robot’s technical condition. The documentation also includes recommendations for continued operation. This serves as the basis for planning future actions.

Yes—we provide maintenance services for most major industrial robot manufacturers. This allows customers to manage their entire fleet of machines through a single service provider. It simplifies maintenance management.

In many cases, yes—early detection of wear and tear helps prevent serious damage. This translates to lower maintenance costs and a reduced risk of downtime. That is why inspections are viewed as an investment rather than an expense.
